On the way to Robe we passed by Cape Bridgewater which first has a beautifull and long beach, very nice! Second it has a petrified forrest where never a tree stood. And third it has blowholes, also very nice. It was hard to leave, I would have liked to stay longer.
After we finished lunch we left hungry, the flies at it all. Incredible how annoying they can become. Still hungry we made our way to an old vulcano with a beautifull blue lake in it's crater.
Finally in Adelaide, it was an exhausting day for me, some sightseeing stopps but not realy mutch to see.
In Adelaide Frederik and me went to the Botanical Garden, where I layed around and tried to sleep in the lawns. But as little brothers are, they don't let you.
Another lazy day in Adelaide. I personaly like the city. For lunch we went to Chinatown where we planned to go for dinner too, but bevore we got there dad had an accident. A bus crashed into the car while dad was waiting for pedestrians to finish crossing on a left turn. Luckily nobody got injured, but our car lights, bumper and boot got damaged. So we called the car rental and told them about. They told me we get another car, and we don't have to worry about anything, since we are fully covered. For this trip the insurance was worth the money. In Australia you don't even need a car insurance to drive it, that's totaly unthinkable in Germany. Anyway, after the phone call we went to the airport to change the car. But still we haven't eaten anything and drove to Chinatown, where we had planned to be one or two hours earlier.
Finally getting out of Adelaide, our crash town and on the way with a 'new' car. The odometer states 50 000 km instead of 10 000 for the first, but it drives the same. Our way for today is from Adelaide to Cooper Pedy and about 850 km. It's not to much, but still a long way to go.
The landscape changed from costal over bush- and grasland to pure dessert and the horizon is somewhat between 500 m and 20 km away. On the way we have seen road signs just some hundret meters bevore the runway for the RFDS starts. Of course there were also roadtrains and huge railway trains we had to wait for to pass. At one of the railway crossings a railway train with 123 wagons crossed our way and we were forced to wait for 4 minutes till it passed. It seems over here everything is a bit bigger than in Europe. A Goldwing motorcycle plus trailer. The trailer contained everything, an enormous tent, BBQ station, seat and table, ... for two people.
And while Frederik and Roland wanted to see the Missle Museum from the inside I felt more like a Siesta and recovered a bit from driving.
It turned out that Cooper Pedy is a nice village with nothing to do. It has the charm of a typical gold mining city, but everything is a bit different. The 'city' lives from opal diggers all around. The first thing you can mention getting closer to Cooper Pedy are the sand / soil hills all over. They look like enormous mole hills rather than mining activity. Once in the city we checked in and the next morning we realized that we all three have slept very well. Our rooms were downstairs below the basement in one of the old mines where the day's heat doesn't get in. Very comfortable!!!
